Liu Jianming, born in Jiangxi Province in 1989, currently working and living in Chongqing. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, China West Normal University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree. He got master degree from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts in 2015. In China, he is good at presenting historical landscapes and current narrative themes from a micro perspective, which has the characteristics of realism. While in the Netherlands, this sense of history and social reality are suddenly pulled away and broken. As a narrative artist, his social role is suddenly changed. What should he care about and what should he express? Liu groped towards a more microscopic and abstract direction. He depicted the things he cared about most now in a realistic way, like the way of daily record. At the same time, he abstracted the picture in a completely opposite direction, and the memory, sociality and sense of responsibility after the vacuum was removed were transformed into the picture of abstract accumulation. These two echoes form a sense of contradiction and humor, which is essentially the same as the social reality narration before him. The memories of color, chaos, crowding and pressure, which are abstracted, seem to be far away, but they are more like memories with a sense of distance. Liu won 2016 John Moores Painting Prize and 2015 New star art award.
