Both through his own artworks and his active roll in glass art education internationally, Richard Meitner has a profoundly positive and highly visible impact on art in glass. His works are included in the permanent collections of 65 museums throughout the world. Richard, together with Mieke Groot, was from 1981 to 2000 responsible for the glass department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since 2010, as a full member of the Vicarte Research group at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal, Meitner has been an instructor for their Master’s Degree program in the Art and Science of Glass and Ceramics.
Richard’s artworks are almost invariably more abstract and ambiguous than words easily express, they do not lend themselves to any one interpretation, and thus offer different audiences quite different visual experiences. He intends and purposes his work to express itself, choosing very deliberately not to direct-, and thereby limit the viewer’s experience with verbal explanations.
