Exhibition “Until The Answer Comes, Or A Worry Disappears” – Krista Israel
This art installation “Until The Answer Comes, Or A Worry Disappears” was made during the pandemic in 2021, presented in the 2023 Chengdu Biennale from 16 July to 22 November 2023.
This is an art installation made with very subtle and complicated technique of flamework, cold assemble, kiln forming borosilicate glass, uberfang glass, etc. and combined with vintage rocking chair and telephone, table cloth, drinking glass, silicone etc.
Looking at Krista’s work is like entering a story. The work is pleasing to the eye. Her works are realistic but transcend reality, integrating the complex emotions of creators and viewers. The artist is especially good at creating various glass materials, but at the same time she is unconstrained and eclectic. She often mixes different types of materials such as silicone, toy stuffing, cloth, nylon rope, and daily necessities in her works. Glass is a material with natural characteristics. It is not completely controllable in the process of being made, so the ending is unknown, and these ready-made objects represent existing stories and ideas. This known and unknown, beautiful and banal, meticulous and rough form a strong visual contrast, while combining different techniques, materials and her ideas make her work complex and interesting, full of humor.
Krista Israel (1975, Amersfoort, the Netherlands) graduated with honors from the State Institute for Art and Craft (IKA) in Belgium and acuquired BFA (2013) and MFA (2016) in Glass Art. She is a mixed media artist while specializing in glass. She won 2022 Winner Saxe Emerging Artist Award, Glass Art Society, USA; 2020 Nomination Bernadine de Neeve Glass Prize, Association of Modern Glass, the Netherlands.
