About Us
Oooit Art established the Werkspoor International Art Center in April 2022 in the Werkspoor District in Utrecht, the Netherlands. As a complementary initiative to our work of public curation, museum programs, art education, and international art research since 2007, this space integrates the functions of a gallery and an experimental art lab. It is committed to advancing artistic practices and critical thinking within a multicultural context.
Background
Between 2020 and 2022, due to the pandemic, many of our planned activities - including international biennales, museum exhibitions, and Asia-Europe exchange projects - had to be suspended. In response, we transitioned online and launched our self-developed interactive AR platform exhibition “Iteration of Life”, exploring the relationship between humans and nature. We also hosted four online forums on contemporary glass art, engaging artists from over ten countries and eight international museums and institutions. These discussions addressed glass as a mature medium in Europe and an emerging one in Asia. This period strengthened our commitment to Oooit Art's core concerns: how art connects humans with nature, East with West, and the past with the future.
Development
In 2022, the UN International Year of Glass, we launched our physical space operations with the group exhibition "Reborn" as part of the international art initiative "Rays of Glass", which we co-initiated. Although the space was originally established as a non-profit initiative, it quickly attracted the attention and support of collectors after opening, gradually taking on the identity of a gallery under Oooit Art.
International Reach
Today, the space serves as a platform for both emerging and established artists from Europe and Asia. Since 2024, Oooit Art has participated in major art fairs in Amsterdam and The Hague, and has gained global attention via the Artsy platform. Our collectors come from the Netherlands, China, the United States, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Spain, and beyond.
Location
We are located in the western part of central Utrecht, adjacent to Juliana Park. Once the site of a historic Dutch railway manufacturing complex, the area is now a vibrant hub for creative industries and a community of artist and designer studios.
